DENVER—La procuradora general de Colorado, Cynthia H. Survey by AARP Foundation ElderWatch Finds Four-out-of-Five Colorado Adults Have Donated to Charity, but only about Half are Properly Vetting Before Giving

DENVER, CO –A recent survey by AARP Foundation ElderWatch found that close to 80% percent of Colorado adults ages 18 and older made a charitable donation in the last twelve months. Though many are giving, the survey also found that most consumers don’t know how to verify a charity’s legitimacy.

DENVER - Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman today announced Colorado’s participation in a $100 million settlement with Barclays Bank PLC and Barclays Capital Inc. for fraudulent and anticompetitive conduct involving the manipulation of LIBOR. The London Interbank Offered Rate (LIBOR) is a benchmark interest rate that affects financial instruments worth trillions of dollars and heavily impacts global markets and consumers.

DENVER—After a seven-day trial in a civil law enforcement action brought by Colorado Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman, a Denver District Court judge found that Colorado foreclosure lawyer, Robert J. Hopp, and his law firms and title companies, violated consumer protection laws in a scheme to charge false and misleading costs for title insurance policies on 2,291 foreclosures.

Denver – Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman today released additional information specific to Coloradans affected by the national settlement with Volkswagen. Colorado, along with thirty-six other attorneys general, and several federal agencies entered into national settlements with Volkswagen to pay more than $570 million in penalties for illegally marketing, selling and leasing diesel vehicles equipped with illegal and undisclosed defeat device software, and to repay consumers that bought these vehicles.

Denver – Colorado Attorney General Cynthia H. Coffman is urging consumers to do their homework before responding to a solicitation for money to help victims of the shooting in Orlando, Florida. Sadly, many fraudsters take advantage of tragedy to line their own pockets through donation scams.

“Coloradans always are extremely generous in response to those in need. Be charitable, but be smart,” said Attorney General Coffman. “If you want to help, ensure that the person collecting your money is really giving it to victims or to organizations providing victim and community support.”
